A 36-year-old man is in critical condition after an aggravated assault at the Sobering Centre and Day Centre in downtown Yellowknife.

At approximately 5:40 PM on Tuesday, September 3, Yellowknife RCMP received a call for service at the Sobering Centre regarding an injured man.

The City of Yellowknife Fire Division Emergency Medical Services attended and transported the victim to the hospital. The victim has been transferred by Medevac to Edmonton.

A suspect has been located and taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing.

Persons may have witnessed the incident as it happened at a busy time of the day. If anyone noticed suspicious activity in the area of the Sobering Centre and Day Centre around 5:40 PM, or have any information in relation to this incident, they are asked to contact Yellowknife RCMP at 669-1111.
