Four people sent to hospital following head-on collision

The Northeast District RCMP is investigating a head-on collision that sent four people to hospital.

On August 20, 2019, shortly before 11:30 a.m., members of the Lamèque detachment responded to a collision on Route 113 near Lamèque, N.B.

Police believe an SUV travelling southbound was attempting to pass another vehicle and collided head-on with a delivery truck coming in the opposite direction. The SUV then collided with a third vehicle.

The driver of the SUV, a 51-year-old man from Pigeon Hill, was transported to hospital with serious, but what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Three occupants in the third vehicle were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the delivery truck was not injured.

Route 113 was closed in both directions for several hours but has since reopened.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
