RCMP Traffic Services East removes aggressive driver from highway near Holyrood

Yesterday, at approximately 2:00 p.m., RCMP Traffic Services East was on the Trans-Canada Highway between Witless Bay Line and Holyrood Access Road conducting radar enforcement. Police observed a vehicle coming up behind the unmarked patrol car, traveling at an excessive speed.

The officer activated the rear radar beam and captured the vehicle speeding at a rate of 165 kms/hr.

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 32-year-old man from Bay Roberts, was found to be driving while suspended and operating an unregistered vehicle. Police charged the man for speeding in excess of 151 kms/hr, driving while suspended and operating an unregistered vehicle.

As the driver was previously suspended, the vehicle seizure increased from a 3 day to a 30 day impound. The driver was also issued a 7-day driver's licence suspension.
