RCMP Traffic Services East removes aggressive driver from Veterans Memorial Highway

Yesterday, at approximately 3:30 p.m., RCMP Traffic Services East was on patrol on Veterans Memorial Highway near Makinsons. An officer observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed in the 100 kms/hr speed zone.

Radar readings as high as 154 kms/hr were obtained and a traffic stop was conducted.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Conception Bay South, was charged for speeding more than 51 kms/hr above the posted speed limit. His licence was suspended and his vehicle was seized and impounded.

RCMP NL reminds motorists of the dangers of driving at such aggressive speeds, reducing reaction times and putting others at unnecessary risk. RCMP NL is committed to public safety and will continue enforcement of aggressive drivers.
