News release

On August 19, 2019, at 11:30 am, Selkirk RCMP received a report of a possible drowning in Netley Creek, located at the end of Breezy Point Road in the RM of St. Andrews.

Officers were advised that an 85-year-old male, from the city of Winnipeg, had swum out from shore as his boat had drifted away from the launch. He was not wearing a life-jacket at the time.

A witness on scene, who advised he could not swim, observed the male having difficulty in the water before going under next to his boat. Another boater arrived in the area and was able to attend to the victim where he jumped into the water to grab a hold of him.

Officers, who then arrived with the help of another boater, assisted in removing the male from the water. Once on shore, officers conducted CPR on the male till EMS arrived.

The 85-year-old male was transported to hospital in unstable condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Selkirk RCMP along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate.
