Three men killed in single vehicle crash

September 2, 2019
Moncton, New Brunswick

News release

The Southeast District RCMP is investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that happened on Highway 2 near Moncton on September 1, 2019.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., police responded to the crash that happened along the TransCanada Highway between the Harrisville Boulevard and Shediac Road exits. The vehicle was travelling east at the time of the crash when it left the road, rolled, and ended up in the median.

Three men, ages 24, 29 and 24, seated in the back of the vehicle, were ejected. Two died at the scene while the third person passed away later in hospital.

The 28-year-old male driver was also taken to hospital and later released. A 25-year-old male passenger in the front seat was not injured.

The driver was taken into police custody and then released on a promise to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on December 13 at 9:30 a.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that speed may have been a factor in the collision.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist is assisting in the investigation and was on the scene for several hours.

The five men are foreign students attending post-secondary education in Saint John.

The RCMP is seeking the public's assistance in the investigation. Anyone with information about the crash or may have seen the vehicle, a 2018 silver coloured four-door Subaru Outback with New Brunswick licence NDZ 829, travelling on the highway prior to the crash is asked to contact Southeast District RCMP at 506-387-2222.
