Former CFO of Harbour Grace-Port de Grave District Liberal Party charged with fraud of campaign funds

The former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Harbour Grace-Port de Grave District Liberal Party Campaign, 42-year-old Cory Trask of Upper Island Cove, is facing fraud-related charges following an investigation into the misappropriation of campaign funds.

On June 15, 2021, Bay Roberts RCMP were notified of the fraudulent activity that was detected by the Harbour Grace-Port de Grave District Liberal Party following a forensic audit of the campaign funds. The RCMP General Investigation Section was brought in to conduct an investigation which led police to the charges against Trask. Approximately $9000.00 was taken from the campaign fund.

Trask is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Fraud over $5000.00
  • Theft over $5000
  • Breach of Trust

On October 15, 2021, Trask was served a court compelling document and is set to attend court on November 24, 2021, to answer to the charges.
