Inuvik RCMP investigate weekend shooting

Inuvik RCMP have arrested one male in relation to a shooting on Mackenzie Road in Inuvik, NT.

At approximately 12:23 AM on October 10th, 2021, Inuvik RCMP received a call for a shooting that occurred on Mackenzie Road. Multiple RCMP officers attended the scene and one victim was transported to hospital by AHS (emergency health services) with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The accused was located and arrested near the scene a short while later.

As a result of the investigation:

38 year old William Aleekuk has been charged with Attempted Murder and remains in custody pending his next court appearance on Wednesday October 13th, 2021.

There are no public safety concerns at this time and the victim and accused were known to each other.

The investigation is continuing and the RCMP in Inuvik are being assisted by G Division Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identifcation Section.
