National Police Week

May 15, 2023
Ottawa, Ontario

Statement

Today marks the beginning of National Police Week – a seven-day public awareness campaign that encourages increased awareness and understanding between police and the communities they serve.

Every day, law enforcement professionals go to work in an effort to keep communities safe. This year the theme of National Police Week is "Committed to Serve", providing an opportunity to recognize the hard work and sacrifice from RCMP employees and law enforcement agencies across the country.

The RCMP has been keeping communities safe since 1873. In this, our 150th year, we are renewing our commitment to building safer communities. Every day, I see and hear about our employees from coast to coast to coast who go above and beyond the call of duty to keep Canadians safe. Many also give back to their communities by volunteering, coaching, and mentoring in schools, on sports teams, or taking part in charitable activities.

During National Police Week, I encourage you to take a moment to recognize someone in law enforcement who has helped you and your community. If you're interested in making a difference yourself, consider a career with the RCMP. We are always hiring and are actively looking for the next generation of police officers who want to make a daily positive impact on Canadian communities while enjoying the vast opportunities for growth and development that a career with the RCMP can offer.

Happy Police Week!
