Three arrested for possession of property obtained by crime after fleeing from police

Whitehorse RCMP arrested three people on November 14, 2023, related to possession of a stolen vehicle. Kyle McCormick, Darrin Lucas, and Kimberly Gill remain in custody.

At approximately 4:10pm on November 14, police received a call about a stolen vehicle, observed in the downtown area of Whitehorse. On-duty officers attended the reported area of the vehicle, and the occupants immediately attempted to flee in the stolen truck. The attempts to flee included several dangerous decisions meant to evade arrest, including hitting a police vehicle and running several stop signs.

Police located and arrested three people involved after they abandoned the vehicle near the Yukon Legislature building on Second Avenue and fled on foot.

Kyle McCormick, Darrin Lucas, and Kimberly Gill were arrested for:

  • possession of property obtained by crime,
  • flight from police,
  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

They each faced other additional individual charges related to their November 14 arrests. It should also be noted that Mr. McCormick, Mr. Lucas, and Ms. Gill all had outstanding warrants at the time of their arrests, and are also facing a multiple other charges related to property crime offences related to these warrants. The three had their first court appearances on November 15, 2023, and remain in custody.

Police recovered the stolen vehicle used in this incident and it will be returned to its owners when forensic examination has been completed.

"We recognize that property crime has become a significant community concern in Whitehorse, and are working to target prolific and repeat offenders, educate the public on prevention strategies, and enforce court orders meant to act as a deterrent to crime," says Sgt. Dustin Grant, acting Whitehorse RCMP Detachment commander. "Overall, RCMP employees have put hundreds of hours into investigations involving these three individuals, considering time taken to attend calls, follow up with witnesses and victims, collect and examine evidence, and write and submit reports to the courts, among other tasks to stop them in their crime. We hope that arrests such as these will lead to an overall decrease in damage and losses to citizens and businesses in the city and surrounding area."

No police officers, members of the public, or suspects were injured over the course of this incident.
