News release

On May 21, 2024, members of the Western Alberta District (WAD) Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) were conducting proactive enforcement patrols in John D'or Prairie, in response to a recent spike in gang-related activity in the community. CRU members conducted a traffic stop in the community, which resulted in a search of a vehicle and the seizure of over an ounce of cocaine, which was packaged in a manner consistent with drug trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old individual, a resident of John D'or Prairie, has been charged with Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking. The individual was released and is to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Vermilion. Alta., on July 9, 2024.

"The RCMP's District CRUs are regional teams that provide specialized policing support to local detachments in response to a variety of crimes impacting their communities as part of Alberta RCMP's Provincial Crime Reduction Strategy" said Sgt. Chris Power of WAD CRU. "We want the communities to know that we have been listening to your concerns and are here to answer them through specialized and targeted enforcement."
