Chief Superintendent Sydney Lecky
Chief Superintendent Sydney Lecky joined the RCMP in 1996.
Chief Superintendent Lecky has over 27 years of experience in policing, most of which, was served within British Columbia until he moved to the Northwest Territories in November of 2022. He is uniquely qualified for his role as the Commanding Officer Northwest Territories RCMP, as he served much of his time in northern B.C. regions and communities. He was the advisory, or non-commissioned officer, for Indigenous Policing in northern B.C., responsible for 62 Indigenous communities. He understands life, culture and policing in Northern communities.
Recently, he was the Officer in Charge of the Kamloops and Terrace Detachments. He has led his teams through many major events, including the organized crime conflict in the region as well as wildfires, floods and the ongoing effects of the Indian Residential School discovery. He brings a wealth of experience with him.
He is a board member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police representing the Northwest Territories. His experience includes 14 years of strategic planning in consultation with Indigenous, municipal and regional governments, and served as Detachment Commander in 3 cities. Chief Superintendent Lecky is recognized for his wellness-centred approach to leadership, which he plans to continue in his new role.
Born in New Brunswick, as a proud member of the Peskotomuhkati First Nation, he hopes to continue to advance efforts on reconciliation and systemic racism within the justice system.
