RCMP Commissioner Michael Duheme announced today that Chief Superintendent Kevin Lewis has been promoted to that rank and named the new Commanding Officer of PEI RCMP.

In 2002, Lewis joined the RCMP and has since been posted to Ontario (O Division), Newfoundland and Labrador (B Division), Nunavut (V Division), Northwest Territories (G Division), Manitoba (D Division), and has been in Prince Edward Island (L Division) since 2020. Lewis and his wife, Inspector Beryl Lewis, both serve with the RCMP.

"I look forward to continuing to serve Islanders as the Commanding Officer of the L Division RCMP," says Lewis. "Having been posted on the Island for the past three years as the Criminal Operations Officer, I am aware of the challenges and opportunities facing policing on Prince Edward Island. I am committed to continue the work I am doing with our policing partners, Indigenous leaders, the Provincial Government, and various other stakeholders to enhance public safety. I am honoured to be afforded the opportunity to continue to work alongside the great police officers and employees of the RCMP that work tirelessly to keep the island safe," adds Lewis.
Lewis has 21 years of experience in policing, most recently in the roles of L Division's Acting Commanding Officer and Criminal Operations Officer. He has previously worked in General Duty Policing, Federal Policing, and has tactical experience as an Emergency Response Team member and Critical Incident Commander.

Lewis holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Athabasca University, a Master of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University, a Master of Business Administration from Walden University, and a certificate in Labour Relations from Queens University. He is the President of the Prince Edward Island Association of Chiefs of Police. Lewis has been awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Medal, Manitoba Excellence in Policing Award medal, and the RCMP Long Service medal.

"I am pleased to officially welcome Chief Superintendent Kevin Lewis as the new Commanding Officer of PEI RCMP and want to congratulate him on this significant accomplishment," said Bloyce Thompson, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, and Attorney General of Prince Edward Island. "I have had the pleasure of working with Chief Superintendent Lewis for a number of years now, and know that his familiarity with our Province and our public safety system will lead to continued results and ensure the safety of communities across our Island remains in good hands."
