Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia

News release

RCMP intercepted seven drivers for alcohol-related incidents during Operation Impact, which ran from October 8 to 11. Operation Impact focused on education and enforcement of the four most significant factors of serious and fatal collisions; impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving and not wearing a seatbelt or wearing one incorrectly.

Over the long weekend, Halifax District RCMP and the RCMP Southeast Traffic Services increased traffic enforcement in the Halifax Regional Municipality. This resulted in 27 checkpoints and over 300 traffic stops, leading to seven drivers being intercepted for alcohol-related incidents. Three were charged with impaired driving related offences and four were issued driving suspension due to their blood alcohol concentration. They also issued over 40 Summary Offences Tickets which included one for stunting.

The RCMP wishes to thank the thousands of motorists who drive safely every day and all those that report dangerous drivers. If you see a motorist who is an immediate threat to road safety, please call 911 and pass the following information along, if possible:

  • description of the vehicle and driver
